IRIS  PATTERNS

  Amoena - white standards, coloured falls

Bitone - falls and standards different tonings of the same colour

Bicolour - falls and standards different colours

Blend - tonings of two or more colours

Broken Colour - irregular splashes of different colours across the bloom

Luminata - Falls have lighter edging and veining

Neglecta - light blue standards, darker blue falls

Plicata - edged with darker stitching or stippling

Self - flower all one colour

Space Ager - the beards end in horns, spoons or flounces

Variegata - yellow standards, red-brown falls

 

Flared form - falls tend towards the horizontal

Increase - the number of new side shoots produced

Rebloom - plant flowers more than once a year, usual in autumn as well as spring.

Substance - thickness and strength of the petals.

 

 

DAYLILY TERMS

Ev – Evergreen: Green foliage all year round,

SEv – Semi-evergreen: Leaves die off somewhat in winter, more so in colder climates.

Dor – Dormant: leaves die off completely in winter and sprout again in spring.

Re – Recurrent blooming: has more than one flush of flowers in a season, often three or four.

Dip – Diploid: single set of chromosomes.

Tet – Tetraploid: double set of chromosomes.


 

DOUBLE - many sets of petals

SEMI-SPIDER  (or STAR) - blooms with narrower petals

SPIDER - blooms with long narrow petals, often very large

RECURVED- petals curl under giving a very round look.

TRIANGULAR - petals form a distinct triangle
